Cut Out The Long Showers!

186599041_18d15a7390_mSome days, there’s nothing better than a long, hot shower.  However, according to the US Department of Energy twenty gallons of water is used during the average shower.

By shortening your shower by just a minute or two each day, you will not only save 100-200 gallons of water per month, but you’ll save big money by reducing the amount of water that you have to heat.  This point often gets overlooked by many people who merely focus on the water savings.

I’ve seen people use different methods to control their time in the shower.  From digital timers to sending Mom in to turn off the water, it can be hard to force yourself to consistently reduce the amount of time you spend in the shower.  I ran across the Shower Manager a while back.  It actually controls the flow of water and restricts it after a predetermined amount of time.  It leaves just enough water pressure to finish rinsing, but not enough for a full-flow shower.

As for me, I won’t go so far as to install a Shower Manager-type device, but I will certainly make it a point to not hang out too long in the shower each morning.  While this is not one of those huge changes that you will save huge money on, but you will notice the difference.
