Air Dry your Clothes for Big Energy Savings!

2056179556_f73e569da1_mClothes drying is one of the most energy intensive tasks we undertake on a daily basis. Dryers use a tremendous amount of energy, heating not only our clothes but our houses, often during the hottest months of the year.

As a family with two small daughters who love to change clothes numerous times per day, the laundry never stops.

We use a drying rack for many clothing items that we don’t want to shrink or get damaged in the dryer.  However, we’ve been reluctant to utilize a clothesline for all our laundry.  Mostly out of a desire for convenience and speed, we continue to use our electric dryer.

However, now that Spring is upon us, my wife and I are going to experiment with drying our clothes on a clothesline or drying rack.  We’ll still utilize the dryer for a few minutes to get the wrinkles out, but we’ll still save a lot of electricity.  Perhaps we’ll shop for a clothesline here.

I can’t say whether it will be a permanent part of our energy saving lifestyle, but I’m going to track the energy saved and report back to you on our savings.
